About Happy Days Healing Days
As our regular supporters and beneficiaries will probably already know, Happy Days Children's Charity has been funding and arranging special days and memorable activities for children with physical, mental and emotional challenges for almost 30 years.
With your help, we were able to support almost 25,000 children with additional needs last year, removing barriers to give them a chance to get out, make new friends, develop new skills and build confidence in the face of adversity.
The effects of the Coronavirus pandemic have been profound, but even more so on families that were already struggling with the everyday challenges of looking after a child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
How We're Trying to Help
Clearly owing to the current circumstances, there are a limited amount of activities that we're able to run at this time but we still have families contacting us who are stuggling to cope and who are looking for support when things begin to return to normal. However as things drag on and more people are affected, requests for help are increasing at a worrying rate. Our experience of the financial crash in 2008 was that within 6 months, we were overwhelmed with calls from desperate families needing urgent help.
We feel that it is vitally important to look at how we can help in the current climate and with this in mind, have set up the Happy Days Healing Days campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to raise funds to provide support specifically for children with SEND who have been further impacted by the Coronavirus by providing activities for parents, teachers, schools and community groups to help give them hope at this difficult time.
Our objective is to help:
Children who have suffered with Coronavirus
Children who have lost a parent, grandparent, brother or sister
Families that have been seriously impacted financially through the loss of employment or other circumstances
Children whose mental health has been severely impacted as a result of the pandemic
Providing activities for teachers, schools and groups to promote
Whilst we can't heal the damage that has been done, we're going to try and help families on the road to recovery as best we can. We're already talking to parents, making arrangements and giving families vital hope and something to look forward to at a difficult time.
